FAQs

What happens during Hypnotherapy?

During hypnotherapy you will be taken into a deep state of relaxation where the logical side of your mind (the conscious) can be bypassed and the subconscious can be accessed to help you make positive changes in your life by positive suggestions.

Can Anyone be Hypnotised?

Almost everyone can be hypnotised, trance is a naturally occurring state. The main thing that someone needs to be hypnotised is a willingness to be because you can not be hypnotised against your will.

How Will I Know if I am Hypnotised?

Most people cannot tell the difference between the hypnotised state and being deeply relaxed. The feeling can vary with each person including feeling relaxed and drowsy, a feeling of lightness or others may feel heavy and deeply relaxed in their body with increased muscle relaxation. Most people feel at ease and calm and find it a pleasant experience.

Will I know what is going on?

Your mind may wander as you are talked into a deeply relaxing state but you will always know what’s going on and always be in control.

What are the benefits of hypnosis?

Hypnotherapy has numerous benefits ranging from simple relaxation, to the turning off or down, of negative internal driving forces or habits, that have perhaps propelled you in the past to smoke, to comfort eat or to do a host of other negative behaviours/actions. Most clients comment on how deeply relaxed and peaceful they feel after a hypnotherapy session. Hypnotherapy can truly change your life and often produces results that other conventional treatments can not.

Are there any side effects?

Hypnotherapy is safe you will notice benefits rather than side effects like more confidence, improved self esteem, feeling less stressed and more in control of your life.

What about drugs, can I continue to take them?

Yes, as with all therapies hypnotherapy works in conjunction with conventional medicine and is not an alternative. You should only reduce or stop taking medication if your doctor recommends it.

What is meant by “unconscious”?

Here, “unconscious” simply means everything that is not in our conscious awareness. For instance, we can walk or catch a ball – both are complex actions. Yet, we don’t have to think about all the steps involved in order to accomplish these tasks. We rely on our unconscious intelligence. Throughout life our unconscious retains its ability to learn something new, or use something we already know in a different way. Hypnotherapy engages these natural learning abilities on behalf of who we are becoming rather than who we’ve been.

How many sessions does it take?

This varies greatly, depending on the issues involved. This is a decision that we will come to together. Some people see me for a one off session, others engage in longer term work. Counselling-Hypnotherapy is short-term and solution focused. The number of sessions you require depends on your issues and goals, which may change as you progress.

I’ve heard that some people who go to hypnosis stage shows do crazy things and lose control.

First of all, Hypnotherapy is very different from being hypnotized on stage. People volunteer for stage shows and if they end up clucking like chickens then this is because they want to, usually to play up for the audience. In a Hypnotherapy session a person is completely in control and aware of what is happening. People usually feel just wonderfully relaxed and able to recall most, if not all of what is said by the therapist.

Will I divulge any embarrassing personal details or ‘secrets’?

No. hypnosis only continues with your co-operation. You are in complete control over what you say and do.

Is the therapy confidential?

Yes, I work under the guidelines of the National Council Of Hypnotherapy (NCH) whose members are bound by a strict code of practice and ethics of the highest standard.

Is it a good idea to see my doctor before visiting you?

If you suspect that there is a physical cause for a problem then your doctor should be consulted.

How much do your sessions cost?

This depends on the nature and type of the session. Please see my Fee's & Sessions page.

Do you offer a guarantee?

No! And for a good reason. Every ethical hypnotherapist knows that no treatment is 100% successful for everybody. Human beings are a little more complicated than machines! What I can guarantee is this; I will use all of my skills and tools to do my very best in helping you as quickly as possible. The only thing I ask is that you commit to the process.

Do you do home visits?

I don't make home visits. All consultations and sessions are conducted from my private office.

How do I book an appointment or consultation?

To make an appointment either contact me by email at [email protected], text or phone on 07517 993360. Early morning & evening appointments are available. While I’m with clients you might reach my answering service, but please leave a message. Your concerns are important to me and I will contact you myself as soon as possible. I make all appointments myself and you won’t need to speak with anyone else.

Is Past Life Regression real or is it my imagination?

Once you have a past life regression experience, you will see that it feels quite real and is hard to write off as being a figment of your imagination. The experience tends to be so realistic and often so profoundly different that few doubt it is a very real past life. I often remind those with doubts, that if it is one’s imagination and the life they come up with is a metaphor for issues which facilitates healing, then the goal has been accomplished anyhow, and it doesn’t matter if it is authentic or not. Additionally, I believe, as do experts in the field, that if an individual feels very real emotion during the regression, then it is most likely a past life experience.  The best approach during a past life experience is to focus on the images, sensations, knowing and feelings you experience, report what you see as I ask you questions during the experience, and do not worry about whether it makes sense or is ‘real’ or not. Just allow the information to come, and trust whatever comes up at the time. There is plenty of time afterward to make sense of it.

Can I get stuck in a past life?

No, it's not possible to get stuck in a past life any more than it is possible to remember your childhood and get stuck in that.  You remain safe at all times. At any point in time you chose, you can open your eyes and you will be in your current life sitting in a therapy chair. However, in order to accomplish your goal, it would be best to remain in the experience and let your conscious mind, take a backseat.

Can everyone experience a Past Life Regression?

Everyone can experience a past life regression, but not everyone will. It has more to do with your soul’s readiness. So if a person does not have success accessing past life information, it is usually a result of their subconscious preventing this because it is not the right time for a person to do this work.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the issues and your goals and means. Sometimes change happens slowly and sometimes it happens instataneously. Normally people start to have an answer to this question after their first past-life regression session.
